LONGEST
TENSION-SENSING
ROLL
(ROCHESTER, NH, USA--July 17, 2001) Tension measurement and controls manufacturer Dover Flexo Electronics, Inc. (DFE) has just shipped a TR Tension Roll® transducer with a 165-inch shaft-length, the longest in the company's 27-year history. The six-inch diameter aluminum roll on this special, 400-pound transducer was finished with a knurled, hardcoat-anodized surface. The Tension Roll® transducer was purchased by the Florence, SC site of Dupont Teijin Films and will be used in film manufacture. A TR Tension Roll® transducer is a dead-shaft idler roll with integrated tension-sensing transducers. It is typically installed on a web press, converting or web processing machine as a device to measure total web tension in a given process zone. Dover Flexo Electronics holds a patent on the "through-shaft" design of the Tension Roll® transducer. The roll shaft, which runs axially through the entire length of the roller, gives the TR extremely high mechanical overload protection, even at the length of 13.75 feet. Average shaft lengths for Tension Roll® transducers measure 60 to 70 inches. "In Dover Flexo Electronics history we've sold tens of thousands of
tension transducers. Some Tension Roll® transducers have been over
10 feet long, but this was the first one to hit the 165-inch mark," remarked
Chris Demasky, Dover Flexo’s Tension Roll® production expert.
