FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Single Disk Pneumatic Brake

( Rochester, NH  April 17, 2001)-------For low-torque unwind tensioning in web press and converting applications the Single Disk pneumatic brake is a smaller, lower-cost alternative to the brakes in DFE's line of Heavy-Duty dual disk brakes. Compact, at six inches, the brake's diameter is equivalent to Dover's 60 Series dual disk brake.  Its low profile makes the single disk brake ideal for mounting on shafts with installation space constraints.

Capable of working in high- and low-speed unwind applications in a torque range from 1 lb-inch up to 500
lb-inches, the brake applies torque to the unwind shaft by pneumatically actuating a series of cylinders
(from one up to six) that face the inner disk surface. Sufficient heat dissipation for continuous industrial
use is provided by the raised fin design of the disk's outer surface.

Hassle-free friction pad removal and installation are also key features of the brake. DFE's proprietary
"quick-change release lock" technology allows friction pads to be changed out in seconds with no tools
required. A limited travel actuator piston prevents disk scoring, and the return spring design prevents the
possibility of puncturing the actuator diaphragm.

A corresponding single disk pneumatic clutch with most of the same features as the brake is also
available. The clutch is used for driven unwind applications.

DFE brakes and the clutch are covered by DFE's "No-squeal" warranty and the Tension-Freesm 5-Year
Warranty.

FEATURES/BENEFITS

  •    Backed by Dover's No-Squeal Warranty.
  •    Wide torque range
  •    Cylinders can be actuated individually--valving configured as desired.
  •    Replace worn brake pads in seconds, without tools.
  •    Limited travel actuator piston prevents disk scoring and blown diaphragms.
