NEW MAC MultiAmplifier Card
Amplifies Signal From Multiple Sensing Points

(ROCHESTER, NH, USA--September 18, 2001) Most industrial devices that interface and amplify the milliamp level signals put out by strain-gauge tension transducers (load cells) are single channel, allowing for tension and display output from a single sensor point only. Dover Flexo Electronics, Inc. (DFE) announces the release of the MAC MultiAmplifier Card, an electronic device for amplifying the signals from up to eight sets of tension transducers (or load cells).

The 5.5 x 7 inch MAC Card puts out a corresponding number of 0-to-10VDC signals proportional to tension. The 0-to-10V outputs can be used as inputs to drives, PLC's or other tension monitoring or closed-loop tension control devices. An additional 0 - 1mA (or 0 - 100µA) is supplied for a meter output.

Designed primarily for the newspaper industry to help reduce and eliminate the incidence of web breaks on running presses, the MAC also performs well in any application where process web tension needs to be monitored from multiple web path positions. The TLS (tension limit switch) feature allows customers to set high and low alarm trip points so that the press operator is warned if tension moves outside designated operating limits.

According to Stan Austin, DFE's OEM Sales Manager, "Two major benefits of the MAC MultiAmplifier Card are: 1) being able to read out tension from sensor points along an entire production line from one location. This means less running around for the machine operator; and, 2) the lower cost of installation versus a single, dedicated tension interface/ amplifier for each sensor point."

Applications for monitoring tension from multiple web-path points include newspaper printing presses, textile manufacturing, and wire and fiber winding. A technical product bulletin provides more detail.
